Canadians enjoy one of the highest standards of living anywhere. We have healthy food, clean water, and access to doctors and state-of-the-art medical treatment. In developing countries, the situation is quite different. In these regions, children are perishing from malnutrition, pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria at alarming rates. In addition, adults are dying from often treatable ailments like diabetes, HIV, and heart disease. As a result, life expectancy rates in the developing world are often half those in the developed world.
Dr. Abdallah Daar and Dr. Peter Singer want to change this. These two internationally recognized scientists have dedicated themselves to remedying these inequities. They are at the forefront of a biotechnological revolution – one that can save millions of people from certain death, and offer the promise of longer, healthier, more productive lives. On September 24, 2011, Doubleday Canada is proud to publish The grandest challenge: Taking life-saving science from lab to village by Dr. Abdallah Daar and Dr. Peter Singer.
